Disney Calliber

Okay, I need some MAJOR HELP!!! I have so many dift. ideas for movies, and all are good, but they are not what I want to do, what I want to do is create an animated movie (actually CGI) but have a story (fairy tale) behind it with caliber such as that of Disney's "The Little Mermaid" or more so "Beauty and The Beast" I can think of no fairy tales I know that have not been snatched by Disney, and cannot think of a new creative one. If anyone can help, please do! I am going crazy trying to think of a movie I will love to make.
OH! I forgot to mention... ...I do not wish for a story with only human characters, but for instance like in "Beauty", they not only had the beast, but the clock etc. and in mermaid well, they were all "mer-people" so I don't just want a human tale, but something that I can make beautiful in animation, by having non-human characters in pivitol roles.

turn a true story into a fairy tale?

Or watch the history channel and do the
same.

How about archimedies (sp) defending his
city against the romans? Then he can have
all his 'toys' (inventions) talking to him.

Or (since I'm from scotland) have a Scots
vs. English (the early years). (Maybe a
bit too braveheartish.)

Or (I seem to be stuck on the scottish thing)
how about Robbert Burn's Tam o' shanter (sp))
Who he? He was a poet a few hundred
years ago (1759) and the poem is about this
guy running away from some witches on his
trusty horse meg (i think).

Just some ideas, things that I might actually
try if I had MORE TIME!

Why not look at myths and legends. There are hundreds of these that havent been done. Get hold of a copy of Greek Myths by Robert Graves (another Scot! - is there a trend here....????) and choose a story from there. Remember that Disney added the talking candlesticks and teapots in Beast, as dressing. They have nothing really to do with the story, so dont try and find a story that already has these extra characters (you wont find one) They can be totally invented by you!
Fairy storys - Brothers Grimm, Rumplestiltskin, find a few classic childrens books, they are all out there.

Perhaps old fairy-tales are not for you! Check out some of those mad Terry Jones childrens novels, as they rock and provide a surreal antidote to your usual Disney crap.

Here's some do's and don'ts -

DO be imaginative with your imagery! The best fairy tales aren't all sugar and spice.

DON'T subject yourself to hollywood sentimentality! Think of all that recent Robin Williams rubbish!

DO try to add a new twist. Don't copy someone else's style.

DON'T try to compete with Disney. Come up with a take on your own terms.

DON'T rewrite something too much if you're not a scriptwriter. Keep it simple.

DO a grimms fairy tale?
